Art historian Madhu Khanna has won the Oxford Bookstore Art Book Prize for her publication, 'Tantra on the Edge'.
The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, hosted by the Ambassador of Norway to India and Sri Lanka, May-Elin Stener. Khanna, along with her book's publisher DAG, received a trophy, certificate, and a cash prize of one lakh rupees.
'Writing this book has been a journey of passion and dedication. As we move into the 21st century torn by violence and ecological degradation, we must reclaim the spiritual heritage of Tantra and Yoga,' Khanna expressed.
The jury, which included art historian Alka Pande and Priti Paul of Oxford Bookstores, also commended two other titles: 'The Shoemaker's Stitch: Mochi Embroideries of Gujarat in the TAPI Collection' by Shilpa Shah & Rosemary Crill, and 'Thota Vaikuntam: A Celebration' by Thota Vaikuntam.
Ambassador Stener emphasized the significance of promoting art and culture, stating, 'Norway advocates for artistic freedom and expression. By participating in this prize, we are delighted to contribute to the art landscape in India.'
Instituted with the Visual Arts Gallery in 2022, the Oxford Bookstore Art Book Prize is India's premier award recognizing outstanding art books. The previous edition honored Satyabrata Rout's 'Scenography: An Indian Perspective'.
