In a historic moment for Indian cinema, superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be honored with the career achievement award at the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, organizers announced on Tuesday. This marks the first time an Indian personality has received the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera Ascona-Locarno Tourism award, previously bestowed upon luminaries such as Italian filmmaker Francesco Rosi, American singer-actor Harry Belafonte, and Malaysian director Tsai Ming-liang.

The 58-year-old actor will be bestowed with the honor on August 10 at the Piazza Grande in Locarno, Switzerland. Alongside the award, Khan's 2002 film 'Devdas,' directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will be featured during the festival, which runs from August 7-17. Khan, who recently celebrated 32 years in cinema, will also engage in a public conversation at the Forum @Spazio Cinema on August 11.

Giona A Nazzaro, Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival, expressed his excitement, stating, 'The wealth and breadth of Shah Rukh Khan's contribution to Indian cinema is unprecedented. Khan is a king who has never lost touch with the audience that crowned him. He is a true 'people's hero', sophisticated and down to earth, a legend of our times.'
