British star Riz Ahmed is poised to make a triumphant return to television, headlining an upcoming comedy series for Prime Video.

The series, created by Ahmed and developed under his production company Left Handed, materialized through a first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Ahmed not only stars in the yet-to-be-titled half-hour show but also serves as writer and co-showrunner alongside Ben Karlin.

The narrative centers around Shah Latif, a struggling actor on the brink of a career-changing role, who grapples with an existential crisis and a surreal conspiracy thriller simultaneously. 'I've wanted to tell this story for a long time. It's personal, bold, and a lot of fun. It feels so good to be writing and creating it now with this incredible team,' Ahmed stated.

This series marks Ahmed's return to TV after his success in 'The Night Of' and 'Girls.' Jax Media and Amazon MGM Studios support the production, with Ahmed also taking on executive producer duties alongside Allie Moore, Jake Fuller, Karlin, and Roopesh Parekh. 'Riz Ahmed is a gifted writer, actor, and producer, and we have been energized by his passion. Led by Riz and the hilarious Ben Karlin, and guided by Rola Bauer's Pan-English team, this series is sure to delight our global Prime Video customers and make them laugh,' said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios.
