The upcoming Netflix series "Goodbye Earth" encountered a notable setback following a drug scandal involving its lead actor, Yoo Ah In. Originally scheduled for release last year, the series was postponed and has undergone significant edits to reduce Yoo Ah In's presence, as confirmed during a recent production presentation held at the Mondrian Hotel Seoul Itaewon in Yongsan-gu.

During the presentation, which also featured actors Ahn Eun Jin, Jeon Sung Woo, and Kim Yoon Hye, Director Kim Jin Min addressed the controversy. Despite the setbacks, Kim expressed a strong commitment to the series, emphasizing the collective effort involved in its production and the intrinsic value of the work independent of the scandal. "The movie itself deserves to be released," Kim stated, underscoring his belief in the series' merits and its broader contribution to the cast, crew, and viewers.

Kim also shared insights into the editing process that followed the emergence of Yoo Ah In's scandal. The series underwent a critical re-editing phase to adjust Yoo Ah In’s role, aiming to minimize viewer discomfort while preserving the integrity of the storyline. "It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it allowed me to minimize potential discomfort for viewers," Kim explained.

Despite these changes, Kim assured that the adjustments had been made thoughtfully, ensuring that essential scenes that contribute to the story's flow remained intact. He acknowledged that Yoo Ah In's character, Ha Yoon Sang, is pivotal but reassured that the essence of the story would not be compromised.

Looking beyond the controversy, both the director and the attending cast highlighted the thematic depth and relatability of "Goodbye Earth." The series is described as a narrative reflecting community dynamics on the brink of significant change, with relatable and heartwarming elements that viewers may find surprisingly engaging.

"Goodbye Earth" is set to premiere on Netflix on April 26th, with the team hopeful that the series will resonate well with its audience, offering a compelling tale worth watching despite the challenges faced during its production.
