This intriguing detail confirms speculations about Kingpin's political aspirations, specifically his intent to run for Mayor of New York City.
The MCU Welcomes Back Familiar Faces
Marvel Studios' decision to incorporate several actors from the original Netflix Daredevil series into the MCU's Daredevil: Born Again is a move that is generating significant buzz. This integration not only honors the original series but also adds depth and continuity to the MCU. However, this crossover might spell different fates for the characters, adding an element of unpredictability to the series.
A Seamless Blend of Old and New
Daredevil: Born Again, an American television miniseries set to debut on Disney+, signifies a harmonious blend of the old and the new. Created for the streaming giant, it maintains its roots in the Marvel Comics character while aligning perfectly with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This show, produced by Marvel Studios, is expected to share continuity with the franchise's films, marking it as the second series focused on Daredevil, following the 2015–2018 Netflix series by Marvel Television.
D’Onofrio’s Kingpin: A Role Reimagined
The behind-the-scenes photo, posted on Twitter, has sparked discussions about D’Onofrio's reprisal of his iconic role. His character's keen interest in the mayoral elections was hinted at in the final episode of Echo, laying the groundwork for his storyline in Daredevil: Born Again.

D’Onofrio’s Kingpin character has become an MCU staple, with Daredevil: Born Again marking his third appearance. His MCU debut was in the 2021 Hawkeye miniseries, following a three-year gap after Netflix canceled the Daredevil series. His portrayal in Echo, particularly his complex relationship with Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez, was highly acclaimed. Reflecting on his experience, D’Onofrio mentioned, "The only thing that could have held me back would be if I just had to keep on putting on all that weight and keep it on.
D’Onofrio also said "I love these new kinds of ways that they actually construct the muscle fat suits that I have to wear. I think they finally work and feel right and look good. That helps a lot because it's not the healthiest thing in the world to keep putting weight on and taking it off again. So yeah, I mean, as long as the powers that be will have me, I can't see not playing this part, it's so much fun."
A Creative Revival with Deep Ties
Although specific plot details of Daredevil: Born Again remain closely guarded, it’s known that the series underwent a significant creative overhaul. It will notably reconnect with the original Netflix series, a move welcomed by long-time fans. Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page are confirmed to return, debunking earlier assumptions about their exclusion. Recent set photos have further fueled excitement, revealing that Foggy and Karen, alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil, will establish their own law firm, a concept teased at the end of Netflix’s Daredevil Season 3.
Anticipation Builds for a 2025 Premiere
Directed by the acclaimed duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead of Moon Knight and Loki Season 2, and with Dario Scardapane as the showrunner, Daredevil: Born Again is positioned to be a defining series in the MCU’s Phase 5. With the inclusion of Wilson Bethel as Bullseye and the possible return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, the series promises to be a compelling blend of action, drama, and intricate character development.
