Kim Ji Hoon Talks About His Role as a Scary Villain in 'Death’s Game'

Recently, South Korean actor Kim Ji Hoon, known for his dynamic roles, concluded his latest project, the TVING series 'Death’s Game'. In this series, he embraced the chilling role of a psychopath killer, Park Tae Woo, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. On January 11th, he shared his thoughts on this challenging portrayal.
Kim Ji Hoon expressed his satisfaction with his performance, saying, “Every time I see comments saying I am scary, I think to myself, ‘I have done well.' It feels amazing to be able to show my presence in a drama with a good story and message.” His role as Park Tae Woo, a menacing villain in 'Death’s Game', is a testament to his ability to break stereotypes and engage viewers with his intense character work.
In the Korean drama, Kim Ji Hoon's character is notorious for committing heinous crimes, including dismembering victims and using a car as a weapon. Despite the darkness of the role, Kim Ji Hoon found depth in the storyline, especially the themes revolving around a mother’s love and the preciousness of life. He shared, “The drama has a good message about a mother’s love and the value of life. It made viewers realize life is precious, which made me really proud.”
'Death’s Game' achieved remarkable success, ranking as the second most-watched show on Amazon Prime Video, a significant milestone for Korean content on the global stage. Kim Ji Hoon recalled the physical and mental challenges of his role, involving action-packed scenes and delving into the mind of a murderer. “Playing a bad guy is hard. I had to do difficult action scenes, like getting hit by a car or falling from a plane. It's important to make the story believable for the viewers,” he explained.
Reflecting on his career, Kim Ji Hoon mentioned his previous villainous roles in the Korean drama 'Flower of Evil' and the Netflix film 'Ballerina'. He discussed the evolution of his acting career, “I used to be known for playing nice characters, but I took on villain roles to break that image. It’s fun to challenge and change these stereotypes.”
Kim Ji Hoon concluded with insights into his choice of roles, emphasizing his commitment to dramatic storytelling and viewer engagement. “I never intentionally sought out villainous roles. They just came along while I was looking for good stories. My primary criterion is always a ‘good story’, so I won’t shy away from villain roles in good dramas or movies in the future.”
