In an exclusive interview with Hopeless, South Korean superstar Song Joong Ki candidly revealed his struggles with facing numerous rejections in overseas auditions. The actor, widely recognized for his remarkable talent, shared his determination to persist in his pursuit of international projects, shedding light on the challenges that Asian actors face in Hollywood and beyond.

Song Joong Ki expressed his disappointment at not passing any of the overseas auditions he's attempted, stating, "It's been a while since I auditioned for overseas projects. It's a bit sad that I didn't pass any of the auditions, but I will keep giving it a shot."

When pressed about the specific movies and roles he had been auditioning for, Song Joong Ki maintained discretion, saying, "I was told not to talk about them. One thing I'm sure about is that there are many projects looking for Asian actors. Thanks to the predecessors, Korean actors are now open to more opportunities than before."

In response to whether his marriage to actress Song Hye Kyo had aided his foray into the Western entertainment industry, Song Joong Ki clarified, "I think many think she will be of help in some ways as she is not Korean. Actually, I was actively exploring roles in overseas projects even before I got married to her. Of course, my wife helps me a lot – I once had an audition through her acquaintances working in the industry."

Furthermore, he shared a unique experience where he was offered a role and had a meeting with overseas industry professionals. However, Song Joong Ki's discerning nature led him to only accept roles that he found truly intriguing. He recounted, "Once, I read a very fascinating script, so I suggested having an Asian person play the role. That's how I auditioned for an overseas agency. The company later looked me up and asked why I was auditioning when I was already famous."

Revealing his restless nature and unquenchable thirst for creativity, Song Joong Ki said, "I tend to lose focus when I get bored, and I'm always looking for something new. So I want to explore cultural diversity and work in a new system."

The actor's determination to keep pursuing opportunities in the global entertainment industry reflects the changing landscape and growing openness to diverse talent, offering hope to aspiring Asian actors seeking a breakthrough on the international stage.
