In a bid to survive, Naofumi trains as a hero in isolation, scraping by. He eventually purchases a young tanuki demi-human girl named Raphtalia and an egg that hatches into a bird-like monster, which he names "Filo." Under his care, they rapidly mature into formidable warriors. Together, they earn the trust and gratitude of the people through heroic deeds, slowly working towards their mission as saviors. They also endeavor to uncover the enigma behind the Waves, realizing the threat they pose not only to their world but to others as well.
