Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers. Proceed with caution if you have not watched the show/movie.

The highly anticipated "The Boys Season 4" is still a while away from gracing our screens. The primary reason for this delay can be attributed to the ongoing labor disputes in the entertainment industry, particularly the strikes initiated by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

While fans eagerly await the return of the main series, they can take solace in the fact that the first live-action spin-off, "Gen V," is set to arrive in September. This spin-off is designed to fill the superhero-shaped hole in our lives until "The Boys Season 4" materializes.

Filming Status and Estimated Release Date

As of April 12, 2023, filming for "The Boys Season 4" has officially wrapped up. Initially, there were hopes that the new season would grace our screens in late 2023 or early 2024. However, this estimate has been tempered by show creator Eric Kripke, who stated that the release of Season 4 is contingent upon the duration of the WGA strike.

Kripke also hinted that certain post-production tasks, including Additional Dialogue Recording (ADR), are still pending. With the added complication of the SAG strike, it's reasonable to expect that the production process could take even longer.

Given these circumstances, it is conceivable that "The Boys Season 4" may not see the light of day until early to mid-2024.

Gen V Spin-Off and Its Connection to The Boys

Ahead of "The Boys Season 4," fans can look forward to "Gen V," the spin-off series. This spin-off explores the lives of college-age Supes who endure Hunger Games-style challenges within a Vought-run university.

Creator Eric Kripke has teased that "Gen V" will have some narrative overlap with the main series, particularly Season 3. There are hints of a presidential campaign in the background and developments at the university that tie into Season 3 events. Cameos featured in the spin-off's first trailer further emphasize this connection.

Plot Teasers for The Boys Season 4

"The Boys" Season 3 left viewers with several tantalizing plot threads. Foremost among them is the impending U.S. Presidential election, which could align with real-world events if the release is pushed to 2024. Defense Secretary Robert "Dakota Bob" Singer, portrayed by Jim Beaver, is running as the Democratic candidate. Notably, he has unwittingly chosen a dangerous supe, Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), as his running mate.

Homelander, the narcissistic nationalist, solidified his position in Season 3. He now has an enduring relationship with his son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) and unwavering support from his loyal followers. Internal threats to his power have been eliminated, leaving him in control of Vought and The Seven. However, the team is set to welcome two new members, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) and Firecracker (Valorie Curry).

Beyond thwarting Homelander and Victoria Neuman, "The Boys" themselves are grappling with inner conflicts. Leader Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) faces a life-limiting predicament due to Temp V use. Rumors suggest that one team member may resort to Temp V to gain permanent superpowers.

Trailer and Promotions

There is no trailer available yet for "The Boys Season 4." Given the ongoing WGA strike and the need for post-production work, fans may have to wait until sometime after the strike concludes to get a glimpse of Season 4.

To date, promotional efforts for Season 4 have been relatively minimal. The official Instagram account of "The Boys" shared promotional costume photos of new characters like Firecracker and Sister Sage. Beyond that, fans have seen only a few cast photos and selfies, leaving much anticipation for Season 4.

Returning and New Cast

Fans can expect to see the core characters of "The Boys," including Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capone), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). The Vought superheroes, Annie/Starlight (Erin Moriarty), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), The Deep (Chace Crawford), and Antony Starr's Homelander, will also make a return.

It remains uncertain whether Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy), Giancarlo Esposito (Stan Edgar), or Dominique McElligot (Queen Maeve) will reprise their roles, considering the developments of their characters in the Season 3 finale.

Claudia Doumit is expected to play a more substantial role as Victoria Neuman, potentially serving as the primary antagonist. Cameron Crovetti's character, Ryan Butcher, will receive more screen time. Nathan Mitchell, although Black Noir met his demise in Season 3, will return in a new, "hilarious" version of the character. Other familiar faces, such as Colby Minfie, Laila Robins, Simon Pegg, and Jim Beaver, are set to rejoin the cast.

Season 4 introduces new cast members, including Valorie Curry (Firecracker), Susan Heyward (Sister Sage), Derek Wilson (Tek Knight), Reid Miller (Laddio), Dan Mousseau (Web-Weaver), and Rosemarie DeWitt (Hughie's Mom). Elliot Knight, Rob Benedict, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are also joining the series in undisclosed roles.
