Netflix Gears Up for 'Griselda': A Tale of Power and Crime

After the massive success of "Narcos: Mexico," Netflix is shifting its focus to a miniseries about drug traffickers called "Griselda." This series will revolve around the life of Griselda Blanco, also known as the "Black Widow," a notorious Colombian drug lord. The show will be produced by Eric Newman and led by Sofía Vergara, who will also serve as an executive producer. Expect to see the same creative team behind "Narcos" involved in this exciting new project.

For fans of Sofía Vergara, this role is a departure from her previous work, particularly her comedic role in "Modern Family." In "Griselda," she takes on the character of La Jefa, or "The Boss," and she's also taking on a role behind the scenes as an executive producer. Filming for the miniseries wrapped up in June, and you can catch Sofía Vergara's transformation into La Jefa when "Griselda" premieres on Netflix in January 2024.

Now, let's talk about the real-life inspiration for this series, Griselda Blanco. She was a clever and ambitious Colombian businesswoman who went from being relatively unknown to becoming known as "The Godmother" of the criminal underworld. "Griselda" tells the story of a devoted mother who managed to create one of the most profitable drug cartels in history. You'll see how her unique blend of charm and ruthlessness helped her navigate the complex world of both business and family.

The miniseries consists of six hour-long episodes and was created by Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard. This project reunites the team responsible for "Narcos" and "Narcos: Mexico," with Andrés Baiz directing every episode. Luis Balaguer, from Latin World Entertainment, also serves as an executive producer.

Speaking about "Griselda Blanco," Eric Newman expressed his excitement, saying, "Sofia is a brilliant talent, and her passion, combined with a fantastic story and the amazing Andrés Baiz at the helm, means we have a very exciting series to share with audiences."

Netflix has already given viewers a sneak peek with a first-look photo of Sofia Vergara as Griselda Blanco. Additionally, they've introduced 12 new cast members, including Vanessa Ferlito and Juliana Aidén Martinez.
