France's famous gentleman thief, Lupin, is back in action with Part 3, premiering on October 5. In the trailer, we see Assane Diop, the master of disguise, planning his most daring heist yet. He's fearless and ready for this incredibly dangerous mission.
In the previous season, Assane was on the run from the police. While he exposed a major insurance fraud by the wealthy Hubert Pellegrini, the man who falsely accused his father and sent him to prison, he also got framed for a murder. Now, he's the most wanted man in France, so Assane decides to lay low for the sake of his son Raoul and his ex, Claire.
The story of revenge is a timeless tale, and it makes for gripping TV shows like Lupin. Lupin is based on a fictional gentleman thief named Arsène Lupin, created by Maurice Leblanc in the early 1900s. It follows the journey of Assane Diop, a skilled thief seeking justice after his father is wrongly accused of theft and dies in prison, leaving Assane an orphan. Assane learns about Lupin's art of thievery from a book gifted by his father. Twenty-five years later, armed with his newfound skills, Assane sets out to expose Hubert Pellegrini's crimes and seek revenge.
Lupin was brought to life by creators George Kay and François Uzan, along with writers Eliane Montane and Sumerah Srivastav. The series is directed by Louis Leterrier, Marcela Said, Ludovic Bernard, and Hugo Gélin. Filming took place in various locations in Paris, including the Louvre and Étretat, where the original author, Maurice Leblanc, lived.
The show made a huge impact on Netflix, with Part 1 premiering on January 8, 2021, and Part 2 following on June 11 of the same year. It became one of the most-watched non-English shows on the platform, watched by 70 million households in its first month. Lupin's success continued in 2021, with millions more tuning in for Lupin Part 2.
Now, Lupin Part 3 is on the horizon. In this season, Assane is in hiding, far from his family, and he can't bear to see them suffer because of him. He returns to Paris with a daring proposal to start a new life elsewhere, but his past catches up with him, turning his plans upside down.
