DC chief James Gunn has addressed the rumors surrounding the cancellation of the popular superhero TV series, Doom Patrol. The show, developed by Jeremy Carver, had announced that its fourth season would be its last. However, with only half of the season aired, fans were concerned about its future.
Michelle Gomez, who stars in Doom Patrol, expressed her concerns about the remaining episodes not being released. She took to Instagram and said, "I have a sinking feeling the final installment of 'Doom Patrol' was binned." Fans worried that the show might face the same fate as other projects that were scrapped by Warner Bros. for tax purposes.
To clear up the speculation, James Gunn, the American filmmaker and DC chief, interacted with fans on the Threads app. When asked about the remaining episodes, he responded,
"People have asked me this a few times this morning. I'm not sure what it refers to (I am neck deep in Supermir & Creature Commandos, not focused on day to day TV scheduling) but I can't..." "I can't imagine a world where completed episodes are not going to be released," he added.
Later, Gunn confirmed his statement, saying that the Doom Patrol Season 4 Part 2 would not be canceled. He added that although the premiere date for the next shows had not been announced, the remaining episodes would definitely be released. This announcement provided relief to the show's dedicated fanbase.
He posted, "I now have a confirmation: As I surmised, no, Doom Patrol episodes are absolutely NOT being shelved, even though the premiere date for the next shows hasn't yet been announced to the public."
There were speculations that the cancellations of Doom Patrol Season 4 Vol. 2 and Titans were part of the changes being made by James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios. However, Gunn clarified on Twitter that the decision to end the series had been made before their involvement. He expressed his best wishes to the creators, actors, and crew involved in both shows.
"The decision to end the series precedes us. But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows," Gunn said on Twitter.
Doom Patrol features reimagined versions of popular DC superheroes, such as Robotman (Cliff Steele), Negative Man (Larry Trainor), Rita Farr, Crazy Jane, and Victor Stone. The show has garnered a dedicated following and fans are eager to see a conclusive ending to the series.
With James Gunn's reassurances, fans can look forward to the release of the remaining episodes of Doom Patrol Season 4 and the conclusion of the Superhero series.
Doom Patrol is available to stream on Max. The release date for Season 4 Episode 7 is yet to announce.
