Code Geass fans worldwide have reason to celebrate as the beloved anime series, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, is set to receive a thrilling new musical stage play adaptation titled " Musical Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion." The announcement was made during the highly-anticipated AnimeJapan 2023 event, filling enthusiasts with anticipation for this upcoming production set to debut in September.

Titled "Code Geass: Seido ni Junzuru Kishi" (which roughly translates to "Knight on the Path of Righteousness"), this musical adaptation promises to captivate audiences just as the original anime did. Recently, the production unveiled an eye-catching teaser visual that offers a glimpse into the visually stunning world of Code Geass. Additionally, three talented performers have been unmasked, adding to the excitement surrounding the musical.

Joining the cast are Hayata Seki as Clovis la Britannia, Ayano Hamaura as Cecile Croomy, and Rina Koyama as the enigmatic character C.C., known for her integral role in the series. These new additions join an already stellar lineup, including Ryotaro Akazawa as Suzaku Kururugi, Koji Kominami as Lelouch Lamperouge, Keisuke Kaminaga as Jeremiah Gottwald, Chihiro Saito as Cornelia li Britannia, Kosei Tsubokura as Gilbert G.P. Guilford, Kazuma Yasui as Lloyd Asplund, Yu Saotome as Kallen Kozuki, Yuta Iiyama as Kaname Ogi, Shuya Sunagawa as Kyoshiro Todo, and Romi Hasegawa as Shirley Fenette.

Guided by the visionary direction of Kotaro Yoshitani, known for his remarkable work on musical adaptations like "Toilet-bound Hanako-kun" and "Hetalia," and with Sho Kubota as the scriptwriter (renowned for his involvement in the "Fire Force" stage play), the musical is set to be an immersive and captivating experience. Audiences can mark their calendars for performances running from September 16 to September 18 at Kyoto Theater, followed by an extended run from September 23 to October 1 at Tokyo Sunshine Theater.

The Code Geass franchise has made a lasting impact since its original television premiere in 2006, gaining widespread acclaim for its intricate storyline, mecha battles, and complex characters. The series has since inspired numerous manga adaptations and original video anime, including the 2012 spinoff series, "Code Geass: Akito the Exiled."

The production team, led by director Kotaro Yoshitani and scriptwriter Sho Kubota, is dedicated to delivering a production that stays true to the essence of the original anime while adding a new dimension to live performances and musical numbers.

Fans can also rejoice in the fact that Crunchyroll, a leading streaming platform, makes the original Code Geass anime accessible to audiences worldwide. Crunchyroll described the anime as :

“The year is 2017 of the Imperial calendar and parts of the world are under the control of the Holy Britannian Empire. Lelouch Lamperouge, an exiled Britannian prince, encounters a strange girl known as C.C., who gifts him with great and terrible power. The Geass. With this powerful ability, Lelouch can get anyone to do as he wills. But the power of Geass: is it a blessing…or a curse?”

The musical adaptation marks another milestone in the Code Geass journey, which has already seen a trilogy of compilation recap films. The trilogy, consisting of "Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch - Kōdō" (The Awakening Path: Initiation), "Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch - Handō" (The Rebellion Path: Transgression), and "Code Geass - Hangyaku no Lelouch - Ōdō" (The Imperial Path: Glorification), was released between 2017 and 2018, with Funimation bringing the trilogy to fans on Blu-ray Disc.
