KonoSuba Season 3: Release date, plot, and everything we know so far

Fans of the popular anime series KonoSuba have reason to celebrate, as the long-awaited third season of the show has been officially confirmed by Kadokawa in May 2022. The production company has also confirmed that they are working on it. While there is no official release date yet, many are wondering whether KonoSuba season 3 will premiere in 2024.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to the anime television series adaptation of KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!, which is produced by Drive and premiered in April 2023. This spin-off series focuses on the character Megumin and her explosive magic and is based on a light novel by the same author, Natsume Akatsuki.

Season 3 of the KonoSuba series is titled KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3. It is based on the light novel series published by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko, and follows the adventures of Kazuma Satō, a teenage shut-in NEET who leads a group of adventurers comprising Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness. Together, they must defeat the Demon King to save the world.

The KonoSuba franchise has already produced two seasons of the main series, a movie, two OVAs, and now a spin-off series, all directed by Takaomi Kanasaki and animated by Studio Deen and J.C.Staff. With 17 published light novel volumes and 15 manga volumes, there is plenty of source material for future seasons and spin-offs. Fans are eagerly awaiting news about the future of the series and the adventures of their favorite characters in the magical world of KonoSuba.

In terms of the storyline for KonoSuba Season 3, Kazuma has already defeated the Demon King and is now living a comfortable life with his reward money. However, his luxurious lifestyle catches the attention of the Crown, and Princess Irish approaches him for help in capturing the Chivalrous Thief Chris, who has stolen from the empire. Unfortunately, the mission goes awry, and Kazuma is left exiled and separated from his friends. To clear his name, he must uncover a wide-ranging conspiracy that involves the royal family. Meanwhile, the upcoming season may also focus on the developing relationships between the characters, which was a central part of the 2019 movie.

Crunchyroll describes the series as:

“After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato's disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. She claims to be a goddess, Aqua and asks if he would like to go to another world and bring only one thing with him. Kazuma decides to bring the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world filled with adventure, ruled by a demon king. Now Kazuma only wants to live in peace, but Aqua wants to solve many of this world's problems, and the demon king will only turn a blind eye for so long...”

The main characters from the previous seasons of KonoSuba are expected to return for Season 3, with their original voice actors reprising their roles. These characters include Kazuma Satou (Jun Fukushima), Aqua (Sora Amamiya), Megumin (Rie Takahashi), and Darkness (Ai Kayano).

While fans eagerly await the release of KonoSuba Season 3, the spin-off series KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! offers a glimpse into the world of KonoSuba from a different perspective. With the promise of more seasons and spin-offs to come, it's clear that the magical adventures of Kazuma and his friends are far from over.
