Bridgerton Season 3 release date and plot details

Bridgerton Season 3 is now official on Netflix. The filming for season 3 reportedly wrapped up in March 2023. People are wondering when they can watch the new episodes.

The filming for season 3 began in July 2022, and Netflix shared a short teaser to announce it. In the video, cast members showed two fingers and then quickly changed to three, indicating the move from season 2 to 3. Fans were thrilled to see Newton and Coughlan in a carriage at the end of the teaser.

Although Netflix has not yet announced the official release date for Bridgerton season 3, many believe it will be out soon. The wait might be over in the second half of 2023 as post-production work needs to be done.

What to expect from Bridgerton Season 3

It seems Netflix may not want to heavily promote Bridgerton season 3 since the spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was just released. Also, there were rumors that filming was halted because the producer, Rhimes, was unhappy with the storyline becoming too dark. However, Netflix has denied these reports and stated that the release date for season 3 is still on schedule.

Bridgerton is a historical fiction-romance drama that follows the Bridgerton family, a close-knit and powerful family of eight siblings living in the Regency era. The show explores their search for love and acceptance in London's high society, as they encounter friends and rivals along the way. The siblings are named Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth.

The first season of Bridgerton followed the romantic journey of Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke of Hastings, Simon, while the second season revolved around Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, similar to the plot of Quinn's book.

In Season 2 of Bridgerton, Anthony and Kate get engaged after admitting their love for each other. However, there are unresolved plotlines, such as Eloise and Penelope's strained friendship, Theo and Eloise's relationship, and Penelope's crush on Colin.

According to Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Bridgerton, the show will deviate from the book order and skip the third book in Julia Quinn's series. Instead of focusing on Benedict's love story in An Offer from a Gentleman, Season 3 will move on to explore Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s love story in Romancing Mister Bridgerton.  Besides the love story, the plot will feature Penelope’s glow-up. In the book, Pen’s change is attributed to weight loss, seeing that she is plus-sized. However, it will be different on TV as viewers will watch Penelope change after coming into her strength and dialing down on her over-the-top dresses.

While the love story of Penelope and Colin and the romance between Anthony and Kate will continue in Season 3 of Bridgerton, some cast members from the previous seasons may not be returning. It remains unclear who exactly will be departing from the show, but fans are eagerly awaiting more news about the upcoming season.

"From Shondaland and new showrunner Jess Brownell, Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it's time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope's attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.

"Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he's disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.
