If you enjoy watching television dramas based on real-life drug trafficking stories and have already seen popular shows like Narcos Mexico, El Chapo, Narcos, Power, and Peaky Blinders, you may want to consider checking out Starz's Black Mafia Family. The series has completed two successful seasons and is now preparing for its third season. Black Mafia Family Season 3 was renewed in January 2023.
Based on a true story, BMF is an American crime drama television series that chronicles the rise of the Black Mafia Family, a notorious drug trafficking and money laundering organization. The show premiered on Starz on September 26, 2021, and has since been renewed for a second season, which debuted on January 6, 2023.
Black Mafia Family centers around the two Flenory brothers, Demetrius "Big Meech" and Terry "Southwest T," who founded one of the most influential crime families in America, with their leadership and business acumen. Their vision expanded beyond the drug trade and into the world of hip-hop, making them iconic figures on a global level. However, their unwavering loyalty to their family would ultimately become the source of their estrangement. BMF is a gripping story about love, betrayal, and the pursuit of the American dream through thug capitalism.
The production of BMF is spearheaded by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson as executive producer, working alongside showrunner, writer, and Detroit native Randy Huggins, who has previously worked on hit shows like "Star," "Rebel," and "Power." Heather Zuhlke, Anthony Wilson, and Anne Clements also serve as executive producers on the series. The show is produced through Jackson's G-Unit Film and Television in partnership with Lionsgate Television for STARZ. Kathryn Tyus-Adair, Senior Vice President of Original Programming, oversees the production of BMF on behalf of STARZ, while Lionsgate's Erin Conroy takes charge of the series on behalf of the studio.
According to Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for STARZ, BMF has managed to capture the authentic essence of Detroit through its gripping and elevated storytelling, resulting in an overwhelmingly positive response from fans.
“BMF captures the essence of Detroit through elevated, gritty storytelling and our fans have passionately responded to this show more than ever before.” said Kathryn Busby.
“Following such a strong debut with season two, we’re thrilled to continue to expand on the incredible story of the Flenory brothers as they change the game by writing their own rules. We can’t wait to see what our extraordinary producers and cast deliver next.”
The cast of BMF includes a talented ensemble of actors, including Russell Hornsby (known for his work in Grimm), Demetrius Flenory Jr., who portrays Demetrius "Meech" Flenor, Michole Briana White (from Reed Between the Lines), and Eric Kofi-Abrefa (The One). The show also features performances by Myles Truitt (Stranger Things), Steve Harris (Law & Order: Organized Crime), La La Anthony (Power), Da'Vinchi as Terry "Southwest T" Flenory, Kelly Hu as Detective Veronica Jin, and more. In February 2023, 2 Chainz and Ne-Yo were added to the cast in recurring roles for the show's third season.
While an official release date for BMF Season 3 has yet to be announced, based on the show's previous release schedule, new episodes will likely arrive in early to mid 2024. The show premiered in late September 2021, and its second season debuted in early January 2023. If the third season follows a similar timeline, fans can expect to see new episodes of BMF soon. Until then, viewers can catch up on the first two seasons and prepare themselves for the thrilling continuation of the Flenory brothers' story.
