Sweet Tooth, the popular DC comics series that was a hit on Netflix in 2021, is finally arriving with its second season on the streaming platform in April 2023. Despite being swiftly renewed for a second season, the production process was lengthy, resulting in a long wait for fans.
Originally intended for Hulu, the series ultimately found a home on Netflix and achieved tremendous success globally. Netflix has recently confirmed the release date for Sweet Tooth Season 2 of the dystopian show, along with a series of first-look photos. All eight episodes of the series will be available on Thursday, April 27, nearly two years after the finale of season one.
Based on Jeff Lemire's comic-book series, Sweet Tooth is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly viral outbreak has wiped out most of humanity and resulted in the emergence of hybrid babies. The story revolves around Gus, a young boy who is half-human and half-deer, and his father, who live in isolation in a remote area. Here is the official logline for Sweet Tooth Season 2 from Netflix:
“As a deadly new wave of the Sick bears down, Gus (Christian Convery) and a band of fellow hybrids are held prisoner by General Abbot (Neil Sandilands) and the Last Men. Looking to consolidate power by finding a cure, Abbot uses the children as fodder for the experiments of captive Dr. Aditya Singh (Adeel Akhtar), who’s racing to save his infected wife Rani (Aliza Vellani).
To protect his friends, Gus agrees to help Dr. Singh, beginning a dark journey into his origins and his mother Birdie’s (Amy Seimetz) role in the events leading up to The Great Crumble. Outside the Preserve, Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) and Aimee Eden (Dania Ramirez ) team up to break the hybrids free, a partnership that will be tested as Jepperd’s secrets come to light.
As the revelations of the past threaten the possibility of redemption in the present, Gus and his found family find themselves on a collision course with Abbot and the evil forces that look to wipe them out once and for all.”
Netflix has confirmed the cast for Sweet Tooth Season 2, which includes Christian Convery as Gus, Nonso Anozie as Jepperd, Adeel Akhtar as Dr. Singh, Stefania LaVie Owen as Bear, Dania Ramirez as Aimee Eden, Aliza Vellani as Rani Singh, Neil Sandilands as General Abbot, Naledi Murray as Wendy, James Brolin as the narrator, and Marlon Williams as Johnny Abbot.
