Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 290 recap
In Boruto Episode 290, Shikadai and Inojin attempt to keep an eye on Kawaki, while Boruto is annoyed with a sensory-type shinobi assigned to watch them and the enemy. Shikamaru shares his suspicions with Amado that everything is going according to a master plan he concocted. Meanwhile, Eida watches as Kawaki fools his family and the bodyguard with the chakra erasure Jutsu and a Shadow Clone to sneak away into the night.
Boruto senses that the real Kawaki has left the village and tries to lead Naruto to him. Code teleports to the woods near the village using his Claw Marks, and Eida guides him to Kawaki. Naruto informs Shikamaru of the situation and dispatches the Sensory Team to find Kawaki. Boruto sets off after him, using his sensing ability. Code subdues Kawaki and tries to take him to Eida, revealing his intention to follow Isshiki's will to become an Ōtsutsuki god.
However, Boruto intervenes and knocks Code back. He realizes that Kawaki intended to use himself as bait to draw Code in and admonishes him for his recklessness. Code is pleased to hear that Naruto is tracking Boruto's chakra to his location, exactly what Kawaki was trying to avoid. Kawaki demands to speak with whoever Code was trying to take him to, which flusters Eida as she listens in. Boruto stops Kawaki from leaving, saying that he will do everything he can to protect Kawaki, just as the latter is doing everything to protect Naruto. The episode ends with Boruto activating his Karma, which excites Eida.
