Netflix is no stranger to producing crime dramas that have gripped viewers worldwide. After the success of the hit series ‘Narcos: Mexico’, the streaming giant has turned its attention toward the story of a real-life drug lord, Griselda Blanco. The miniseries, titled ‘Griselda’, tells the story of the savvy and ambitious Colombian businesswoman who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.

Blanco's story is one of the rags to riches. She grew up in poverty in Colombia and was forced into childhood prostitution. She committed her first murder at a young age and eventually came to the United States with her first husband and three sons. Blanco earned money by creating fake passports for cocaine smugglers and quickly moved into the smuggling trade herself. By the 1980s, Blanco had established one of history’s most profitable cartels, which trafficked illegal substances between Colombia, New York, Miami, and California.

Blanco was known by many names, including La Madrina, the Black Widow, the Cocaine Godmother, and the Queen of Narco-Trafficking. She was a drug queen pin in Pablo Escobar’s Medellín cartel and orchestrated an entire Miami-based cocaine drug trade and underworld from the 80s all the way through to the early 2000s. Blanco was one of the richest and most dangerous women in the world – and one of the most powerful drug criminals – in the world. She became the first-ever billionaire female criminal but was shot and killed on September 3, 2012, at the age of 69.

Sofia Vergara will be portraying the role of Griselda Blanco in the miniseries, with Eric Newman and Vergara serving as executive producers and showrunners. The same creative team behind ‘Narcos’ will be working on the project, which is sure to excite fans of the series. Netflix recently released a first look photo of Vergara as the real-life drug queenpin from the upcoming limited series, Griselda. The streamer also revealed 12 newly added cast members, including Alberto Guerra (Narcos: Mexico) as Dario, Vanessa Ferlito (NCIS: New Orleans) as Isabel, Alberto Ammann (Narcos) as Alberto Bravo, Christian Tappan (The Great Heist) as Arturo and Diego Trujillo (Metastasis) as German Panesso

The rest of the cast list is equally impressive, with talented actors from hit shows such as ‘Narcos: Mexico’, ‘The Great Heist’, and ‘American Crime Story: Versace’. With such an impressive cast and crew, fans of crime dramas and fans of the real-life story of Griselda Blanco will be eagerly awaiting the release of this highly anticipated miniseries.

The cast members are Paulina Davila (Luis Miguel) as Carmen, Gabriel Sloyer (Narcos) as Diaz, Juliana Aidén Martinez (Blacklist) as June, Martin Rodriguez (Detrás De La Verdad) as Rivi, and José Zúñiga (The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) as Amilcar.

Eric Newman, one of the executive producers, has expressed his excitement about the project, saying: “Griselda Blanco has long been a passion project for Sofia, and we are grateful that she and her partners at LatinWe have chosen us to help her tell that story. Sofia is a brilliant talent, and her passion combined with a fantastic story from Doug and Ingrid, and the amazing Andrés Baiz at the directing helm, means we have a very exciting series to share with audiences.”

Despite the hype surrounding ‘Griselda’, Netflix has not announced an official release date for the miniseries yet. However, fans of the genre and fans of the real-life story of Griselda Blanco will undoubtedly be excited to see the story of one of the most successful and powerful drug lords in history come to life on screen. With a talented cast and crew behind the project, ‘Griselda’ is sure to be one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year.
