The South Korean drama 'All of Us Are Dead', which depicts a zombie apocalypse, was a hugely popular show on Netflix and was renewed for a second season in June of last year. Fans eagerly await the release of All of Us Are Dead Season 2 after being left on a cliffhanger at the end of the first.
All of Us Are Dead Season 2 will center around the struggle for survival against the undead. Director Lee Jae-kyoo has stated that he deliberately left the room in the series for the possibility of a second season.
"Many directions, settings and scenes were intentionally produced to expand the story into an additional season, including the introduction of the new races of zombies," said Lee to The Korea Herald.
"If the first season can be seen as having presented humanity's survival, the next season can talk about the survival of zombies."
Chun Sung-il is the creator of the popular K-drama series 'All of Us Are Dead', which is based on Joo Dong-webcomic Geun's book. The show features a talented cast including Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, Lomon, Yoo In-soo, Lee Yoo-mi, Kim Byung-chul, Lee Kyu-hyung, and Jeon Bae-soo, who have all received praise for their performances.
The storyline of the show revolves around a group of high school students who find themselves in a zombie apocalypse following a failed science experiment. With no access to food or water, and cut off from communication by the government, the students are forced to rely on equipment found around the school to protect themselves from the hordes of the undead. The school becomes a battleground, and the students must fight to survive, or risk becoming infected themselves.
At the end of Season 1 of 'All of Us Are Dead', the students manage to escape the school and make their way to an abandoned neighborhood. However, they soon realize that they are not alone and encounter a group of zombies. In the process of trying to escape, Dae-su injures his leg, and Woo-jin sacrifices himself to save his sister but is bitten in the process. Nam-ra is forced to kill him to prevent him from turning into a zombie.
During the escape, Nam-ra starts to feel a strong urge to consume her friends and is tormented by voices in her head. She almost attacks On-jo, but manages to control herself. Overwhelmed with guilt, she abandons the group and disappears. The remaining six students - Su-hyeok, On-jo, Dae-su, Hyo-ryung, Mi-jin, and Ha-ri - finally reach an abandoned railway and are rescued by the military.
Four months later, the government ends martial law in Hyosan, but still keeps the residents in quarantine. The six students sneak out of the camp and return to their ruined school, where they are surprised to see Nam-ra, who appears to be healthy despite being a half-zombie. Nam-ra informs them that she has met other half-zombies who also escaped from the school and that she will be back. She then jumps off the rooftop, leaving the others behind. In a mid-credits scene, government officials are seen transporting the bodies of Byeong-chan's wife and son to an unknown location.
The pre-production of All of Us Are Dead Season 2 has already begun, however, there is no official confirmation on whether filming has started. Fans may have to wait until late 2023 or early 2024 to see the return of the show.
