The Witcher, one of Netflix's most popular shows, is returning for Season 3. The show's production has already been completed. Season 4 of the fictional medieval period drama has also been renewed, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia. Last year, Hollywood actor Henry Cavill announced his departure from The Witcher.

In an interview with Collider in December 2022, The Witcher creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich stated that Season 3 may be split into two parts due to VFX challenges in Hollywood.

Schmidt Hissrich said, “We haven't discussed that [splitting the season] yet, but at this point I think what we see happening across all sorts of streamers, I wouldn't rule it out. I do think that, obviously, we don't put anything out that we're not incredibly proud of. So that dictates our entire launch date. And I think it'll be interesting. Again, we have a way still a very long time, eight-ish months or so until Witcher Season 3 comes out. So God willing, we get it all out at the same time. But who knows, we'll see what happens.”

In terms of the premiere date of The Witcher Season 3, we don’t know the exact time when the season is coming out but the series is set to be premiered and released in mid-2023.

As of, September 2022, the RI report noted, the writing and filming for The Witcher Season 4 and Season 5 will start back to back.

The series is set on "the Continent," a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass. The Witcher delves into the legends of Geralt of Rivia and Princess Ciri, who are fated to meet.

The Witcher Season 3 will be an adaptation of 'Time of Contempt,' the second proper novel in The Witcher Saga. Lauren Hissrich recognized that Season 2 of the Netflix drama was very different from the books, with new plotlines and character upgrades. He also stated on Twitter that the third season would be much closer to the source material.

In that book, Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt rejoined and journeyed to Aretuza, the location of the Brotherhood's headquarters (season 2 finale). In "Time of Contempt," a revolution occurs, allowing the story's protagonist to split off once more.

Here’s the official logline of The Witcher Season 3:  "As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.”

In terms of the cast, the fantasy drama has added Robbie Amell, Meng'er Zhang, Hugh Skinner and Christelle Elwin to the cast. Amell and Zhang will play Gallatin and Milva respectively, while Skinner and Elwin will portray Prince Radovid and Mistle. They will join Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan, along with Joey Batey, My Anna Buring, Tom Canton, Jeremy Crawford, Eamon Farren, Mahesh Jadu, Terence Maynard, Lars Mikkelsen, Mimi M Khayisa and Wilson Mbomio among others.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jaroslaw Sawko in the fantasy drama, The Witcher Season 3.
