Netflix’s Derry Girls Season 3 will begin filming anytime in 2021, announced Nicola Coughlan, who portrays Clare Devlin, one of Erin's best friends in Derry Girls. The third season’s filming has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series viewers are waiting for it for the past two years.
Meanwhile, Nicola Coughlan who is presently busy with the project “Bridgerton” has confirmed via Twitter that Derry Girls Season 3 is on the way but she could not confirm the release date. She wrote, “Covid has pushed back filming several times which has been so shite, but honestly the storylines in this series are the best we’ve ever done so I can’t tell you how worth it the wait will have been.”

The scripts of Derry Girls Season 3 are already written as confirmed by Nicola Coughlan. She recently talked to the show's creator Lisa McGee about the storylines, which are “so brilliant.”
"We can't do anything involving a crowd right now, so logistically, it's really tough. But I spoke to Lisa McGee recently and she talked me through the storylines. They're so brilliant, which doesn't surprise me - she's just incredible - but it made me want to do it right now," said Coughlan.
Ian McElhinney, who plays Granda Joe in Derry Girls, has told The Sun, about the difficulties they’re facing. The filming for Season 4 was supposed to start back in May 2020. Currently, the team is expecting that they could shoot in the autumn this year.
"I know with Derry Girls, one of the stumbling blocks was the number of extras we might need. The amount of what we have to do with extras.”
“While you may be able to control the movement of actors and how to kind of isolate them, when you start bringing in extras on any sort of significant scale then you run into issues.
"So, that was certainly one of the things that interrupted our working on Derry Girls at the time."
All the five girls are expected to reprise their roles in Derry Girls Season 3. Saoirse-Monica Jackson will return as Erin Quinn, Louisa Harland as Orla McCool, Nicola Coughlan as Clare Devlin, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell as Michelle Mallon, and last but not least, Dylan Llewellyn as James Maguire. Siobhán McSweeney is also expected to return as Sister Michael, the headmistress of the school that the girls attended.
The Channel 4 series, Derry Girls is set in Northern Ireland and follows 4 teen girls in high school getting up to all kinds of naughtiness. The series is created and written by Lisa McGee. The series was picked up by Netflix internationally.
