Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Thursday announced to extend the date of providing comments and suggestions on the Draft of National Education Policy by one month. The various stakeholders will now be able to provide their suggestions on NEP till July 31.

“People are enthusiastically participating in providing comments and suggestions. The date is being extended so that all those unable to provide their suggestions so far could also participate in this process of deliberation and enrich the final NEP,” said Nishank in reply to a question in the Parliament. He further added, "We have received suggestions from teachers, educators, students, guardians, vigilant citizens and also the common people". He also informed the house that the ministry has received around 50,000 suggestions, so far.

The ministry has initially invited suggestions till June 30. However, the demand to extend the date was coming from various stakeholders as the time was reportedly not enough for deliberations.

The committee in the Chairmanship of India’s leading space scientist Dr K. Kasturirangan had submitted the Draft NEP 2019 on May 31, 2019 which was put in the public domain for comments and suggestions on June 1.
