In a dramatic turn of events, legislators from the opposition Congress and CPI(M) staged a walkout in the Assam assembly on Saturday. This came after Speaker Biswajit Daimary disallowed a discussion regarding the current tensions in Tezpur University.
Speaker Daimary firmly stated that discussions concerning a central university could not take place in the assembly. The request for deliberation was raised by Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia of the Congress, who questioned the omission of his party's Zero Hour notice on the matter.
Saikia highlighted the unrest stemming from the death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg, claiming that student protests had led to the vice-chancellor going 'absconding.' Dissatisfied with Daimary's stance, the opposition parties exited the assembly in protest.
