The tragic death of Harshraj Shankar, a medical aspirant from Bihar's Nalanda district, has intensified the spotlight on the spate of student suicides in Kota, Rajasthan. This city, known for its coaching centers, has seen nine such fatalities since January this year.

Shankar, found hanging from an iron rod in his hostel room, had left no suicide note, though 'sorry' was scribbled on his bookshelf. His devastated family has called on the Rajasthan government to take swift action against this alarming trend that has claimed numerous young lives.

The Kota police have launched an investigation under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Meanwhile, authorities emphasize the importance of initiatives like 'Gate Keeper Training' for hostel staff to preemptively identify and counsel students showing signs of distress.
