A private educational institution in Himachal Pradesh faced controversy after its Eid-ul-Fitr celebration guidelines were met with resistance. The decision instructed students to dress in traditional Eid attire and bring specific foods, sparking objections from a local right-wing group.
Dubbed as against secular principles, the instructions drew warnings of protest from the Dev Bhoomi Sangarsh Samiti. Allegations arose accusing the school of promoting Islamic culture, prompting a withdrawal of the guidelines to ensure safety and maintain communal peace.
Amidst concerns of social disruption, the school emphasized the intent of promoting cultural diversity and understanding, stating the event was voluntary and not religiously mandated. Education Minister Rohit Thakur assured that efforts for communal harmony in Himachal Pradesh remain strong.
