Maharashtra's Bold Move: 25,000 Students to Benefit from New Hostels

Maharashtra plans to accommodate 25,000 students in new hostels set up by the social justice department. Maharashtra's Social Justice Department, under the stewardship of Minister Sanjay Shirsat, is gearing up to accommodate 25,000 students in newly established hostels.

Announcing the initiative in the legislative council, Minister Shirsat detailed plans to open around 125 hostels across the state, with a substantial allocation of Rs 1,500 crore to ensure these facilities are equipped with modern amenities. This move responds to the growing demand and aims to create model hostels.

In a departure from previous practices, the admission process will be managed by the Commissionerate of Social Justice, moving away from Mantralaya-level oversight to streamline operations. Responding to concerns about poor hostel conditions raised by opposition leader Ambadas Danve, Shirsat assured corrective measures are underway, with district collectors tasked with taking action.
