In a significant demonstration marking discontent in the educational sector, student organizations tied to the INDIA bloc gathered at Jantar Mantar on Monday. They voiced strong opposition against the National Education Policy and the new UGC draft guidelines, demanding their complete rollback.
The protest saw participation from multiple student groups, including NSUI, AISA, SFI, and others. Their collective appeal focused on the reinstatement of student unions, fair elections in academic institutions, and addressing issues related to reserved category seats and scholarships.
Critics of the National Education Policy, launched in July 2020, argue it aligns education with future needs but strays from inclusivity. Protesters also challenged the proposed UGC regulations for appointing academic staff, which includes a three-member committee led by the state governor's nominee.
