In an expansion effort to enhance educational opportunities for tribal students, five more Eklavya Model Residential Schools are poised to begin operations in Tripura by the next academic year, according to officials.
These exclusive institutions for tribal students follow the CBSE curriculum and are supported by the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Tribal Welfare. The initiative is part of the Centre's approval for 21 such schools across the northeastern state, with an average setup cost of around Rs 48 crore each.
Five of these new schools, sited in regions with significant tribal populations such as Rupaicherri, Karbook, Padmabil, Dumburnagar, and Gabardi, have already completed construction. With admissions leveraging an entrance test, the schools will offer sophisticated facilities, including solar lighting and smart classes, to enhance the learning environment for tribal students, officials said.
