An inquiry into the site selection for Handwara Government Medical College in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, has been announced by Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo. Concerns have been expressed regarding the chosen flood-prone location.
Minister Itoo's declaration follows inquiries from legislators who argue that the site was chosen without local representative consultation, under the previous Lieutenant Governor's leadership. This selection reportedly led to substantial public financial losses.
In response to these concerns, the minister has assured the assembly that efforts will be made to consult local representatives when selecting a new, more appropriate site for the college, thus addressing legislative worries and ensuring transparency in the process.
