IIT Madras has announced a pioneering initiative to reserve supernumerary seats for students excelling in national and international Olympiads. These seats, termed under the Science Olympiad Excellence (ScOpE) scheme, will be introduced from the academic year 2025-26.
The institution will offer two supernumerary seats for each undergraduate program, specifically one for female students, enabling those who shine in Olympiads in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Informatics, and Biology to pursue courses without going through the JEE (Advanced) Framework.
Admissions under the ScOpE category will adhere to the existing eligibility criteria for JEE (Advanced), excluding prior IIT admissions. A separate portal maintained by IIT Madras will facilitate applications, opening on June 3, 2025. This initiative aims to foster scientific curiosity and innovation among emerging talents on a global scale.
