A 25-year-old master's student at Aligarh Muslim University has reportedly taken his own life by hanging outside his hostel room on Friday, according to police reports.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Shakir, a first-year MA Theology student, was found suspended from an iron rod near his room at the 'Mumbai Hostel' on the university's campus. The university's Proctor, Mohamad Waseem Ali, confirmed the grim discovery.

Authorities have reached out to both police and Shakir's family in Lakhimpur Kheri district to notify them of the tragedy. Known to have been in his room until around 10 pm the previous evening, his roommates reported nothing unusual about his behavior that day. Investigations are ongoing.
