During a high-level meeting, Banerjee instructed Basu to consult her for any significant policy changes. She stressed that primary students should not be subjected to the semester system, emphasizing the need to minimize the weight of school bags instead.
The Chief Minister clarified that while the semester system may continue in higher education institutions, it is not suitable for young primary school children who are still acquiring basic communication skills.
