In a deeply concerning incident, police have commenced investigations into the alleged suicide of a 22-year-old Dalit college student in Haryana, following claims of harassment over unpaid tuition fees. The family argues that the mounting pressure from the college authorities contributed to her mental distress, leading her to take her own life.
The tragedy unfolded on the night of December 24, with the victim's father, Jagdish, asserting that his daughter was barred from appearing in her semester exams due to the overdue fees. Citing financial constraints for his inability to pay on time, he alleged harassment from the college principal and other staff members.
As the case garners attention, both local and national political figures, including Haryana's Social Justice Minister and Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, have called for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim's family. An FIR has been filed, and authorities assure effective measures against those found culpable, urging restraint from politicizing the tragedy.
