The West Bengal government is taking decisive action to investigate the alleged misappropriation of funds intended for purchasing tablets for class 11 and 12 students. Education Minister Bratya Basu made it clear that the government has zero tolerance for such dishonest acts, confirming at least two arrests.
An association of state-run and state-aided schools has demanded a thorough probe after reports surfaced that the funds, allocated at Rs 10,000 per student, had not been deposited in many students' accounts across several districts, including Malda, Purba Bardhaman, and Purba Medinipur.
The school education department is collaborating with the National Informatics Centre to develop a standard operating procedure to prevent future incidents, especially those involving potential cybercrimes. Over 300 cases have been identified, prompting urgent calls for comprehensive investigations.
