In a significant move, schools in Delhi can now upgrade to senior secondary level without incurring additional charges from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), as directed by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. This order is in response to a recent high court decision.
The Lieutenant Governor's directive frees schools from bureaucratic red tape, relieving them from additional payment demands and lengthy procedures involving the education department and DDA. The order mandates the DDA to amend its lease agreements with educational societies accordingly.
The DDA has issued a standard operating procedure for the conversion, where schools can obtain additional floor area ratio (FAR) for upgrades without extra charges. However, they must conform to the Unified Building Bye-Laws and secure necessary approvals from the education department and relevant boards.
