In Canadian schools, identity-based bullying remains a critical issue, undermining students' sense of belonging and overall well-being due to entrenched societal power imbalances. This form of bullying, which targets aspects of a student's identity like race or gender, has significant negative effects on their mental health and academic achievement.

Researchers at the Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence Network (PREVNet) have created modules for educators to help recognize and counteract identity-based bullying. These resources, available in French by year's end, aim to equip educators with the tools necessary to foster more inclusive school environments.

Key strategies include revising school board policies to acknowledge social identities, promoting self-awareness among educators, being positive role models, encouraging inclusive peer interactions, empowering students to safely intervene, and fostering a welcoming school atmosphere. These efforts are critical in turning the tide against bullying and building respectful, safe learning spaces.
