A delegation from the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) met with the Joint Secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday to discuss significant delays in the disbursal of scholarships.
The students claim that despite the scholarships being shown as generated in the Scholarship and Fellowship Management Portal (SMFP), the funds have not been received since May. Non-NET fellowship recipients have also faced similar delays.
Key demands from the students included the extension of the deadline to claim pending arrears from October 8 to August 2025. The UGC has assured that arrears claimed between August 1 and August 8 will be processed within the next few days, and that future fellowships will be more timely.
Further, the UGC has agreed to extend the deadline for claiming pending arrears beyond October 8, addressing one of the students' major concerns.
