Thousands of candidates staged a demonstration outside the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) office on Monday, demanding the cancellation of the recent recruitment examinations.
A sizeable police force has been deployed near the JSSC's office to preempt any untoward incidents, an official confirmed. Students from different parts of the state alleged 'malpractices' in the Jharkhand General Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JGGLCCE). The protests, which began in the morning, continued throughout the day.
Examinations were conducted at 823 centres on September 21 and 22. During this time, mobile internet services were suspended to prevent any malpractice. Following complaints, the JSSC set up a three-member committee to investigate, prompted by a letter from Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar. An agitating student revealed that many had marched nearly 100 km to reach the commission's office. They claimed to provide evidence of malpractice, but the JSSC alleged that submitted CDs were blank and requested original sources of evidence by 3 pm on Sunday. In light of the protests, the Ranchi district administration imposed a prohibitory order within a 100-meter radius of the commission's office until October 2.
