The Delhi government has mandated all school heads to ensure that security workers receive their wages and statutory benefits on time.
A circular issued by the Delhi Education Department pointed out that delays in payment were due to inefficiencies at the security agencies' end.
'Several security agencies employed at the schools have failed to pay salaries and other statutory benefits to workers, despite receiving funds from the department, leading to inadequately serviced security provisions,' the circular stated.
The department further instructed school heads to refrain from making advance payments to vendors and to process reimbursements only after verifying that worker wages have been paid.
The circular noted that several schools requested alternate service providers due to the lack of payment to security workers and the resultant absence of guards.
'If vendors default on payments despite receiving funds or discontinue their services, HoS should file police complaints to recover government money,' the circular added.
Additionally, there are proposals to redeploy affected security guards, ayahs, and malis after verifying their status.
