India has extended its policy of monitoring laptop and tablet imports until Dec. 31, 2023. The 'import management system' launched in November 2023 requires companies to register import quantities and values. Initially set to expire this month, the policy now aims to continue data collection for monitoring purposes.
India has extended its policy on monitoring the import of laptops and tablets by three months, with the new expiration date set for Dec. 31, 2023, according to a government notice released on Tuesday.
The country introduced the 'import management system' in November 2023, mandating that companies register the quantities and values of their laptop and tablet imports with the government.
The government initially stated that the collected data would be used for surveillance of import activities. The system was originally set to expire this month, but the extension aims to continue the monitoring process.
