In a turn of events, the Kamrup Metropolitan district in Assam has revoked the closure of all schools due to an improvement in weather conditions. Effective immediately, all government, provincialized, and private schools will resume normal classes starting tomorrow, September 25.
The district elementary education officer's (DEEO) recent order noted that the earlier decision to shut down schools from September 24 to September 27 has been reversed. This follows the drop in temperatures, as Guwahati experienced a significant decrease from a high of 39.3 degrees Celsius on Monday to 33 degrees Celsius on Tuesday afternoon.
However, adjusted school hours will remain in effect, starting at 7:30 am and concluding by 12:30 pm, as initially mandated in a September 20 order. Schools have been directed to conduct morning assemblies inside classrooms, ensure students stay hydrated, and maintain adequate ventilation and power backup arrangements.
