The National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has secured a refund of Rs 1 crore in enrolment fees for students enrolled in various competitive exams, including UPSC Civil Services and IIT entrance exams, as announced by the government on Sunday.
The refunds were processed at a pre-litigation stage following the intervention of the Consumer Affairs Ministry. This action was prompted by numerous complaints from students nationwide against coaching centres involved in conducting these classes.
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare stated, "This action reaffirms our commitment to ensure that coaching institutions adhere to fair practices and honour the rights of consumers." The NCH took up a mission-mode drive to resolve these grievances quickly after receiving several complaints about unfair practices, particularly the refusal to refund enrolment fees, according to an official statement.
