Pope Francis departed from Singapore back to Rome on Friday, wrapping up a high-profile tour across Southeast Asia and Oceania. During the demanding 12-day journey, the pontiff called for action on climate change, promoted interfaith dialogue, and celebrated Mass in East Timor.
The 87-year-old, who has experienced health challenges, maintained a rigorous schedule, headlining more than 40 events across Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Singapore. Notably, he visited a township on the edge of the Papua New Guinean jungle where he delivered supplies to local residents.
Francis, in a wheelchair due to knee and back pain, continued his advocacy in Indonesia by issuing a joint declaration on climate change with the national grand imam. In Singapore, he urged the government to ensure fair wages for lower-paid foreign workers, emphasizing his commitment to social justice.
