Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday criticized previous governments, accusing them of failing to provide education for the underprivileged. Speaking at the inauguration of the 2024-25 academic session for Atal Residential Schools in Lucknow's Mohanlalganj, Adityanath announced a plan to expand these state-run schools from 18 to 2,000 in phases.

Atal Residential Schools offer free education, residential facilities, and study materials to meritorious children from economically weaker sections. Adityanath emphasized that these institutions aim to challenge the chaos, anarchy, and mafia influence in education, advocating for equal access to resources regardless of caste, appearance, region, or language.

Funds have been allocated for establishing schools in 57 districts next year, with further expansion planned in phases to cover all tehsils and development blocks. Ultimately, 2,000 such schools will operate statewide, ensuring no poor child is deprived of quality education.
