Controversy Over Land Transfer: Palampur Agriculture University Faces Major Setback

Former Vice Chancellors, students, and teachers of Palampur Agriculture University have urged Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to reconsider the decision of transferring the university's land to the tourism department. They argue that this action will negatively impact agricultural education and the farming community.

Controversy is brewing in Himachal Pradesh as former Vice Chancellors, students, and teachers of Palampur Agriculture University appeal to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. They are urging him to reconsider the decision to transfer 112 hectares of university land to the tourism department.

Chief Minister Sukhu had announced on Friday that the land would soon be transferred to create a tourism village, citing underdevelopment of the land over the past 48 years. The university's community argues that figures suggesting surplus land are misleading and based on inadequate knowledge of land grant patterns.

The letter sent to the Chief Minister emphasizes the adverse impact this land transfer would have on agricultural education and the farming community. Copies of the letter have also been sent to high-ranking officials, including the Governor and the state's Agriculture Minister.
