The Karnataka government has decided against bestowing the best teacher award on B G Ramakrishna, the Principal of the Government Pre-University College at Kundapura in Udupi district. Reliable sources from the Education Department revealed that the award, set to be given on Teachers' Day, was revoked following substantial backlash.

The controversy stems from Ramakrishna's purported stance during the hijab row that took place in the state two years ago. The opposition from activists and the Muslim community played a crucial role in this decision.

Initially announced by the government, Ramakrishna's name has now been officially withdrawn, confirming the influence of social and communal sentiments in the state's award recognition process.
