Global automotive wheel manufacturer Maxion Wheels on Wednesday announced the launch of its academic scholarship programme in India, partnering with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and the Iochpe Foundation of Brazil. The inauguration of the new Formare learning centre marks India's debut in the initiative.

India is the third country globally, and the first in Asia, to start this program, which aims to bolster the Indian government's efforts to support economically weaker sections and skill development, according to Maxion Wheels.

The Formare program, active for over three decades in Brazil and Mexico, has now commenced in India with the opening of the Pune centre. The selection process for the programme began in July, shortlisting 26 students from the economically weaker sections. These students are currently engaged in professional training at Kalyani Maxion Wheels' Pune manufacturing facility.

Under the program, selected students receive comprehensive academic scholarships funded by Maxion Wheels, which cover full tuition, a uniform, transportation, meals, and a monthly stipend.

Upon successfully completing the two-year program, students will receive an academic diploma in Manufacturing Technology.

"For more than 35 years, we have successfully connected classroom learning with real-world workplace experiences for thousands of students in Brazil and Mexico. We are now extending these social benefits to India," said Marcos Oliveira, President and CEO of Iochpe-Maxion, and Chairman of the Board, Iochpe Foundation.

"The primary objective of Formare is to enhance the employability of underprivileged youth, particularly in the Pune region," said Pieter Klinkers, CEO of Maxion Wheels.
