In a move likely to spark debate, the Rajasthan government has announced that bicycles provided to girl students in Class IX at government schools will now be saffron.

The saffron hue is notably linked with the ruling BJP in Rajasthan. During the previous Congress administration, black bicycles were distributed, but with the BJP's return to power last December, tenders for orange-coloured bicycles have been floated.

Education Minister Madan Dilawar explained that the saffron colour stands for energy, bravery, and positivity, and it was used during the prior BJP government as well. The initiative's goal is to aid girls in accessing education by providing free bicycles.

He also highlighted that saffron symbolizes valour and bravery, referencing its use by freedom fighters during India's Independence. Dilawar pointed out that the colour is synonymous with sunrise.
