The ongoing conflict between Delhi University (DU) and St Stephen's College regarding the selection of candidates for reserved seats has intensified. The college recently published a list of Christian students who were offered admission, but the university identified 'crucial and alarming aspects' in the list, hindering the allocation process.
The DU allocates admissions through its Common Seat Allotment System (CSAS), which colleges must comply with. On Monday, DU flagged the allocations in minority institutions, including St Stephen's, citing quota violations and unfilled BA course seats despite qualifying students based on CUET scores.
Efforts to get responses from St Stephen's College's Principal John Varghese and admissions in-charge Sanjay Kumar were unsuccessful, as well as from DU officials. The long-standing dispute also saw the Delhi High Court intervening to provisionally admit six students, blocking them from attending classes until further orders, amid unresolved allegations from both sides over admission practices.
